These service will have their underlying messaging infrastructure unified but will continue to operate as stand-alone apps after the integration, according to the report. This will also boost its advertising business across these platforms. The company aims to build the best messaging experiences for fast, simple, reliable and private messaging. LG to introduce Snapdragon 855-powered 5G smartphone with vapor chamber at MWC 2019

Recently reports said that LG G8 will not feature 5G support, but there will be a separate 5G phone in the new series later in March. Now LG has confirmed that it will be unveiling its 5G smartphone at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona, Spain on February 24th. The smartphone will be powred by Snapdragon 855 and will use Vapor Chamber for improved heat dissipation compared to existing heat pipes. The surface area of the vapor chamber is 2.7 times that of the LG V40 ThinQ heat pipe, and the amount of water contained is more than two time bigger, says the company. Since the heat dissipation chamber is made of copper with high thermal conductivity, the larger the surface area, the quicker and widespread the absorption of the surrounding heat. The water inside also stably stores the heat absorbed from the copper surface and reduces the temperature change inside the smartphone, it adds. The phone will pack a 4000mAh which is 20% larger than 3300mAh battery on the LG V40 ThinQ and promises 5G will not increase the battery consumption. The company is strengthening its partnership with major mobile operators, mainly in Korea, North America and Europe, where 5G service will be launched this year. The ...

Apple dismisses over 200 employees from its Project Titan autonomous vehicle group

Apple has laid off 200 employees earlier this week from Project Titan, which is its autonomous vehicle group. In August 2017, Apple enlisted a Tesla engineering vice president and Apple veteran, Doug Field, to lead the Titan team alongside Bob Mansfield. However, this week's dismissals from the group were seen as anticipated restructuring under the relatively new leadership. The laid-off employees will be staying at Apple but will be moved to different parts of the company. Apple, for a while now has been silent about the company's car prospects indicating that the company has scaled back from the initial rumored vehicle to a focus on software. In 2016, Apple laid off employees from the same group, shifting its strategy. An Apple spokesperson acknowledged the layoffs and said the company still sees opportunity in the space. In a statement, the spokesperson said: We have an incredibly talented team working on autonomous systems and associated technologies at Apple. As the team focuses their work on several key areas for 2019, some groups are being moved to projects in other parts of the company, where they will support machine learning and other initiatives, across all of Apple. We continue to believe there is a huge opportunity with autonomous systems, that Apple has ...

Gmail v8.12 starts testing Dynamic Email support

Google has started testing a feature called Dynamic Email in the Android app. Google for a while now has been talking about bringing AMP to Gmail; AMP for those who are unaware is basically supposed to speed up load times for web pages. The company started testing out AMP for Gmail on the web soon after the announcement but was only open to few.  The company is now expanding AMP to Gmail app itself as testers gained a new account setting that allows them to enable AMP support, also known as "Dynamic Mail" in the setting title. As the test explains, this lets Gmail show Dynamic Mail whenever it is available. Similar to HTML emails, AMP messages can be included alongside plain text versions as a separate MIME type. While AMP is a pretty cool way to implement more power to email, there is a possibility of phishing schemes and abusive advertising campaigns, or even exploit vulnerabilities in Gmail and web browsers. Google is hard at work to sandbox anything that could run with AMP email, we will have to see where it goes and how it works in reality. Source

Apple iOS 12.2 beta brings new 'Hey Siri' setup for the rumored AirPods 2

Apple has released iOS 12.2 beta for developers. This update brings quite a few changes and feature, it also includes a new setup screen that's used when configuring AirPods and this is currently hidden. This new setup screen clearly states that the user will be able to talk to Siri with AirPods or iPhone by saying "Hey, Siri". When pairing the new, yet to be announced AirPods, users will be asked to set up "Hey, Siri", just like it can be set up for other devices such as iPhones and iPads.  The main difference from using "Hey, Siri" with these new AirPods is that the new AirPods themselves will do the recognition; it sends the command to the paired device and you'll be able to use Siri while your iPhone is in your pocket without having to tap on your AirPods. Rumors regarding the new AirPods has been in the news for a long time now and support for "Hey Siri" has been the top listed feature. The introduction video of the iPhone XS and XR showed a person at Apple Park using "Hey, Siri" with their AirPods. Reports suggest that the new generation AirPods would be launched in the first half of 2019,  including new ...

Twitter confirms it is testing "Original Tweeter" tag to distinguish who started a thread

Twitter is testing "Original Tweeter" tag to make it easier to parse who started a thread on Twitter. This new feature finds posts from the original tweeter of a thread, and might also help curb abuse on the platform. However, it is currently being tested with feature users and not available widely.  aw thanks Twitter I appreciate you calling me an "Original Tweeter" (seriously though what is that?) pic.twitter.com/IBpqcOIBYK — Chuck Wendig (@ChuckWendig) January 24, 2019 Twitter confirmed the testing and noted that the tag functionality has been rolled out to a "small percentage" of iOS and Android users across markets. This will also make it easier to distinguish accounts that are masquerading as other tweeters and could avert some imitation issues. While it may be a small change, it is in-line with Twitter's drastic plans to introduce more changes like color-coded replies that give users more prominent interface. The beta app also brings features like algorithmically sorted replies and a  more toned-down UI. Sara Haider, Twitter's director of Product Management said: Twitter's purpose is to serve the public conversation. As part of this work, we're exploring adding more context to discussions by highlighting relevant replies – like those from the original Tweeter. Source
