Huawei said to be testing Google's Fuchsia OS on Kirin 970 powered Honor Play It is already known that Google is testing Fuchsia operating system for months now, though it never spoke about it publicly. It is also speculated that eventually, Fuchsia will replace the Android operating system completely, and possibly even Chrome OS too. While we know nothing about the OS, we now know that Huawei could be the first OEM to boot Fuchsia OS. The company is allegedly test-driving the OS on the Honor Play. A new commit in the Fuchsia source code has revealed that Huawei has managed to boot the Zircon kernel on the Honor Play. The Zircon kernel–separate from the Linux kernel Android is based on–in its finished state will serve as Fuchsia's kernel. While it is still far from being finished or stable, it is still a good start. The patch adds support for the HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC to the Zircon kernel, and the Honor Play is one of the smartphones with this chipset. Apart from Honor Play, there is the Huawei P20 lineup, the Huawei Mate 10 lineup, the Honor 10, the Honor View 10, and more. However, this means nothing to the end user since Fuchsia is currently in an unfinished state and we have no clue when it will be. Right now, it is just a ... |
Logitech said to be in talks to acquire headphone maker Plantronics for $2.2 billion According to a new report, Logitech International SA is said to be in discussions to acquire Plantronics Inc, a U.S. maker of Bluetooth earpieces and gaming headsets. This deal, when happens would be by far Logitech's largest acquisition and would be a push in the right direction for the company's goal to diversify its business. This would also help both the companies to keep down the manufacturing costs following the introduction of tariffs on imports from China into the United States. Logitech said to have offered more than $2.2 billion to acquire Plantronics, sources say. As of the end of trading on Friday, Plantronics had a market capitalization of about $2 billion. If negotiations are successful, a deal between Logitech and Plantronics could come as early as next week. It is also possible that no agreement would be reached. Plantronics declined to comment, while Logitech did not respond to a request for comment. Logitech's and Plantronics' businesses have been under a lot of pressure, thanks to various offerings from brands like Microsoft Inc and Google. Back in 2017, Logitech acquired ASTRO Gaming for $85 million to expand the sector. Since nothing is official yet, we should know more details in the coming week. Source |
WhatsApp for iOS beta brings new group calling UI changes, ability to view videos from notifications WhatsApp seems to be rolling out new features which include the ability to view videos directly in the push notification and new UI improvements for group calls for its iOS beta version. The new UI improvements for Group calls are available for the 2.18.110.17 IOS beta, while the ability to view videos directly in the push notification seems to be enabled for some with version number 2.18.102.5. These features are not available for Android yet but should be made available in the days to come. The new group calling improvements bring a new Group call button in your group chats, which is the only way, for now, to see if you have got the feature or not. When you tap the button, WhatsApp will present in a sheet a list of all possible participants you can start a call with. Apparently. As mentioned: My wife can use the new function, a friend's wife cannot. Both use the App Store version, have never used a beta. In the video: My wife's iPhone, I hope you mean this feature (Watch the video in the notification) pic.twitter.com/mLukaM47pn — Carsten Knobloch (@caschy) November 21, 2018 Since group calling is limited to 4 members, you can select 3 more members to join.
