Lava Iris 401e is an entry range smartphone from Lava and it is aimed to be one of the most affordable Android devices out there. It was released back in June and it has bare minimum specifications for an Android smartphone. Is it worth buying for its price? Lets check out. Design, Build Quality and Handling Lava Iris 401e comes with a 4inch WVGA display which is on the smaller side in the modern day display sizing chart. It has an all plastic build, but feels quite good and looks premium. However, the downside to its all plastic build is the glossy nature of the phone that makes it slippery and tough to handle. On the front, we have the display above which we have the earpiece. Being a budget device, there are no orientation and proximity sensors. Below the display, we have three capacitive touch keys. There is a metal ring that surrounds the front panel and is more visible on the bottom. There is a microphone on the metal ring. On the right side of the phone, we have the volume rocker. There is nothing on the bottom and the left side. The top is a little crowded with the microUSB port, 3.5mm audio jack and ... |

Apple published 41 patents on Thursday that includes components for covering sapphire window manufacturing for iPhone displays and camera covers, according to a new report from Apple Insider. Earlier this week documents published by the company revealed that Apple and manufacturing partner GT Advanced Technologies would open a sapphire production facility in Arizona by the end of February, according to a report from 9to5mac. The sapphire window method can be applied to an iPhone's display, which details the sapphire-covered screen that can be grown, harvested into polished wafers, decorated (painted or masked) and cut into discrete windows, reveals the patent. It can also cover camera modules that is present on the iPhone 5 and the 5s. Sapphire window for the iPhone screens would protect the display from scratches and also improve the quality of the screen. It could also be used in other Apple devices such as iPad if it ramps up the production. Even though Apple CEO Tim Cook did not reveal when the factory would begin preparing sapphire glass components in a recent interview to ABC, these new documents reveal that it would start production as soon as next month. Hope we can see the next-gen iPhone or iPad with Sapphire ... |
Sometime during the last week, we brought you information that SwiftKey will be coming to iOS pretty soon. That rumor has just transformed into official information and SwiftKey have released their application on the App Store and it is live. The application is not a stand-alone keyboard app that it is and as seen on the Google Play Store, but is more of a note-taking app. SwiftKey comes as SwiftKey Note in iOS and as the name suggests, it is a note-taking application. SwiftKey Note brings the goodness of SwiftKey's popular predictions to iOS, but in a way that keeps Apple happy. Apple has never really opened up its iOS platform and despite Tim Cook's hint that the platform may open up in the future, we haven't seen anything so far. However, SwiftKey folks have found a little workaround. They have introduced a note-taking app that has a row of prediction words just above Apple's iOS keyboard. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEGhJwDDq48 Unlike its Android counter part, SwiftKey on iOS is just a stand-alone app and has the prediction features just within its application for now. SwiftKey has an iOS compatible development kit that others can use to integrate SwiftKey inside their application. Meanwhile, the stand alone ... |

Bing Rewards is a program that Microsoft started, to encourage use of its search engine, so that it could dole out rewards for doing so. It was a desperate, yet successful attempt, as people started using it for gaining credits that could be redeemed at Amazon, Fandango or even get you an Xbox console, just through using the rarely used search engine. Till now, the rewards program was exclusively on the desktop, where one could sign in to Bing and use it to gain rewards, but finally, it is now coming down to mobile, through the Bing mobile apps for iOS and Android. Nope, Windows Phone support is apparently "coming soon", and we might have reasons why. That aside, the Bing rewards feature will give you certains "tasks" to finish, like a game, and once you finish it, you'll be rewarded with credits of varying amounts depending on the task. This feature is available only in few countries, and India is not a part of it, yet, but it's known for giving out reasonable amounts of credits regularly so that dedicated users could actually gain from using Bing. The above image shows off the dashboard part of the Bing rewards feature that ... |
Twitter had recently updated its iOS app with improved photo editing capabilities and more; now the company has rolled out a few changes to the web version of their application. Twitter gets a new advanced and improved search that has new search filters letting you restrict your searches to photos, videos, news, people you follow, and nearby locations. One of the biggest advantages of this improvement is that, with the ability to limit a search to people only you follow, you can easily search for something that you lost in your timeline sometime back. The aforementioned ability is basically the ability to search through your timeline. The introduction of this feature now makes you wonder where has this been all this years. This information comes courtesy of a tweet from Twitter's official Twitter account. The new filters are available in India right now and the old ones just let you search for photos or people. The web is probably the least of the company's priority as the official iOS and Android Twitter apps had the advanced search since November. |

The booming of Internet in the late 90s is often referred to as the "Dot com boom" where the "dot" refers just a dot and the "com" represents a domain address. The "dot com" boom referred to the rise of Internet companies and mainly because .com was one of the most used domains in the Internet. Until now, there hasn't been much of a fuzz about what comes after the second dot in a web address. Today, the Internet is opening up and seven new domains -.bike, .singles, .clothing, .guru, .holdings, .plumbing, and .ventures are going live. The requirement for specific domains are mainly to appreciate the core functionality of a company. The ".bike" domain for example will be one of the primary requirements of a company that manufactures bikes or is solely focused on bikes. With the addition of seven new domains, the list of TLD(top level domains) is expanding and according to plans, will continue to expand. ICANN(Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the organization responsible for maintaining and taking care of the Internet domains initially approved the expansion of Internet domains in 2011, but the process has been halted citing security reasons. Games are usually the best examples to showcase any new platform. The iPhone got a ton of mini apps and games that showed off its accelerometer and touch screen, which were novel at that time. Similarly, Google has developed 5 mini games for its innovative "Glass" wearable product, to showcase the hardware's unique capabilities. As of now, the Glass can already let you make calls, get directions and so on, but games are something new. Having unboxed the Glass and found it to work really well, we can't wait to test these mini games which might give us a glimpse of the kind of apps that Google will let developers make for the wearable product, that just got a lot more socially acceptable with new frames for prescription lenses. In the latest report from IDC(International Data Corporation), tablet shipments have grown to 76.9 million in the last quarter of 2013. The 76.9 million number is a big increase of 62.4% over the previous quarter, but is a relatively small increase when compared to the sales during 2012 - an increase of 28.2% . Though the sales of tablets continue to increase, the growth has been slowed down and that is assumed to be because of the consumer saturation. During the course of 2013, total tablet shipments across the world totaled 217.1 million units, which shows a growth of 50.6% over the previous year 2012 during which 144.2 million units were shipped. Apple continues to be the industry leader in the tablet segment having shipped 26million tablets during Q4 2014 while it had shipped 14.1million tablets in Q3 2014. Facebook released its financial results for Q4 2013 today and the numbers show a steady rise. The extremely popular social network posted revenues to the tune of $2.59 billion compared to $1.59 billion last year. This beat analyst predictions that were aiming at revenues of $2.33 billion. Facebook Q4 2013 Earnings | Create infographics The most important part of the report however was that mobile contributes to 53 percent of Facebook's advertising revenues. This also explains their continued foray into diversification on the mobile front. With over 945 million monthly active users from mobile alone, numbers look very strong for the company. All in all, the social network has 1.2 billion monthly active users with 745million users accessing the social network daily. Facebook plans to introduce a range of standalone mobile apps that will tie into a Facebook ecosystem of sorts. While Home proved to be a failure in this regard, Facebook Messenger has set a precedent by being a particularly slick app and we're excited to see what else the company pulls out of its hat. |
