The world of budget Android tablets has been set ablaze by the likes of Zync and Spice who are constantly innovating and bringing high performance products at very affordable price points. Sure these devices still can't compete with the iPads of the world but that is not the target audience. Delivering 90% of the experience at a fraction of the price point is what they aim to do and are quite successful at.  That said, we recently got our hands on the newly announced Zync Quad 10.1 Tablet. The name alone suggests some of the highlighted spec points. We've put it through our standard range of rigorous tests to find out if it makes for a sound purchase. Read on to find out. Design Continuing the design standard set by its predecessor, the Quad 10.1 will not be winning any style awards for sure. The outward appearance screams utilitarian but the use of quality plastics makes us forget that. The dual tone finish is still fairly appealing though not as fresh. The front of the Zync Quad 10.1 tablet has a Full HD panel that measures 10.1 inches diagonally as the name would suggest. The centered front facing camera suggests that the tablet ...

You might have seen a lot of  comparisons here lately, mostly dealing with big budget tablets or interesting smartphones, but we never were able to show you how the entry level market was like, especially with so many touch devices in that segment now. These are not smartphones, but they are not dumbphones either. Nokia particularly calls its new range Asha phone smartphones, which most might not agree with, but it has some really good features to talk about. Similarly,  Samsung also recently launched its Rex series of devices to combat the Nokia Asha range in a similarly priced market. So, which one is better? Lets find out. We have chosen two candidates for the Asha vs Rex comparison, and both are similar in some specifications including the lack of 3G and the presence of WiFi. They are the Nokia Asha 310 and the Samsung Rex 90. While the Asha 311 is Nokia's flagship Asha device, it lacks dual SIM support while including the support for 3G. Lets get on with the comparison then. The Nokia Asha 310 and the Samsung Rex 90 share a lot of similarities, so lets go through them first. Both are Dual SIM devices with one SIM ...

The Espoo company's flagship has been around for a while, and was retailing at quite high a price. It was priced at around Rs. 36k - Rs. 38k in several places. It has now received a substantial price cut, at a time when other flagships like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 have made their foray into the Indian market. Now retailing at Rs. 32, 639 at the Nokia India Online Store and for lesser elsewhere, Nokia hopes to attract more sales of the device in India. We'd recently reported on a major update to the popular note taking app on Microsoft's struggling mobile platform. The update gave Evernote much needed features including a freshened up design and homescreen. Today the company is rolling out a new update that adds some nifty features like pinned tool tiles. Evernote's version 3.1 will let you pin specific tools like notes, recordings and snapshots straight to your homescreen allowing for quick access to these features. Evernote is also adding in a a Snippet View that will let users access notes in a horizontal list. This should come in handy for those who like to view n manipulate their phone in the landscape orientation. Evernote is one of the most popular note taking applications out there available on  most platforms. It allows cross device syncing in addition to many other features. On the Windows Phone platform, it is given stiff competition by Microsoft's own OneNote application that provides a similar feature set with tighter OS level integration. [Via - Engadget]

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has imposed new SMS termination charges for retail consumers and commercial messages. Termination charge is paid by the operator where the SMS originates to the operator to which the message is delivered. TRAI did not set a particular charge for this hence some operators were charging 10 paise as termination charges. Now they have set the SMS termination charge as 2 paise for normal SMS and 5 paise on transactional SMS on operators from whom the SMS originates. The 5 paise SMS termination charges was already present for promotional messages since a regulation in 2010. Now, it will also be applicable for transactional messages, which also falls under commercial communications category. This move is to prevent pesky SMS. (TRAI) imposed the restriction of 100 SMS/ day per SIM recently to prevent pesky marketing SMS. Transactional SMSes originating from the government organisations will be exempted from the termination charges. These new regulations would be applicable from 1st June 2013.

While we are reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, we saw it fit that we compare it with the other small tablets in our labs. The Apple iPad mini is the one and only smaller iPad with a cheaper price as well as better portability obviously, so how does it fare when compared to the Galaxy Note 8.0? Lets find out. Here's the in-depth video comparison and read past the break for the text - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA6JVdlvpSs The Galaxy Note 8.0 falls in the much loved Note range of devices, comprising mostly of phones but some tablets too. Is this a phone? or a tablet? We want to call it a tablet because of the screen size. There are some compromises in hardware though, we will talk about it below. The iPad mini the smaller iPad from Apple, made to compete with all the small tablets, like the Nexus 7 or the various other Android models. The design of the Note 8.0 reminds us so much of the Samsung galaxy s3, white overall with chrome like plastic on the sides. Glossy plastic and white means the back is a finger print magnet and gets dirty easily, and the devices feels really cheap in the hands. ...

We got to unbox and review the Karbonn Titanium S5 recently and found it to be a good enough phone for the price. Since we had the Micromax A116 Canvas HD lying around, and also since there are a lot of similarities in the form factor and somewhat the price, we decided to compare them both. Here is a detailed in-depth look at the comparison of Karbonn Titanium S5 vs Micromax A116 canvas HD - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RpehhDhbUU The design of both the phones are similar. Rounded corners and slim profiles make them look remarkably similar. However, the Karbonn has the better build quality and even arguably the design. The only negative we would say, on the Titanium S5 is the fingerprint magnet back panel, but it is so much better than the dirty back panel on the Canvas HD. Talking of the dimensions, the Karbonn Titanium S5 is 8.95 mm thick which is a lot thinner than the 10.7 mm thickness of the Canvas HD. Overall, we think that the S5 does feel more solid and sleek. Coming to the display, the Karbonn S5's 5" 960x540 qHD IPS pales in comparison to the Canvas HD's 5" 1280x720 IPS. But wait, while the pixel density of ...
