With the latest update to Google Translate for Android, the company has added a much requested feature. The app now makes it possible to enable offline translations on a per language basis. Users will need to download a fairly large language pack to enable said feature. Google notes that offline translations will not be as good as those down in the cloud. While the highlight of the update is support or offline translation, the app can now also translate vertical text in Chinese, Japanese and Korean with the camera. Users of the application can head over to the Play Store to download the latest update. |

You might have seen the Sony Xperia Z in the ads recently, and wondered why the purple one looks so unlike reality? Well, it's rendered in CG and hence all you see are just fake reflections and colours. If you had read our Xperia Z review, you would know why we liked the waterproof aspect of this phone. We already had done a photo gallery too, but alas it was the white version. So, to show you the brilliant purple Xperia Z in its full "real" glory, we decided to take it out and give it a good look in front of our cameras. Bonus is a special video at the end, don't forget to watch it! The front of the Xperia Z looks almost the same as the white one, because it's really hard to notice the purple border that runs around the edges. That's the same front face of the device with the screen turned off, and a little bit of water splashed on. The back, thanks to it being made of glass, we could nicely wipe off water in a jiffy without requiring extra effort, which is good. The photo above was taken while still water was being poured on. A week ago I have received a package with something very cool inside. In the package I have a found a custom-built Nokia Lumia 920 case, made of Plexiglass, built on a GoPro chest harness. It's probably no secret that I'm the unsportiest person in Austria, so I've contacted my friend Gernot Lambeck, a huge downhill biking fan. He agreed to give this a try, and so we met last weekend for some action in a nearby forest. With the OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) built inside the Lumia 920, Nokia promises a great video experience even in difficult situations. Blasting through a forest on a bike would probably be "difficult", and I was looking forward to see how the 920 handled the abuse. The 920 fits like a glove, the display is protected by a thin layer of Plexiglass, but with the sensitive touchscreen, the phone can be fully operated through the case! There's even a button fitted into the case to make sure the camera button can be triggered! For better recording results, the front of the case remains open, so going for a swim with the 920 is not recommended. The stuff my friend did was simply unreal. He raced down ... |
