Dropbox today released an updated iOS application for its extremely popular cloud-synchronization service. Responding to user demand, the application serves not just for browsing files but also makes for a media viewer for cloud based files. A dedicated Photos tab takes advantage of the automatic uploads facility built in for Dropbox on mobile devices organizes photos by the time taken. The updated viewer offers an full screen mode for going through old images. The updated interface makes it significantly easier to upload files to a specific folder. Google has announced its plans to do a bit of 'Winter Cleaning' and as a part of it, the company will stop supporting Exchange ActiveSync for Gmail, Contacts and Calendar. Access will only be provided via IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAC which means that legacy devices such as Symbian phones will no longer be able to connect to Google's services. Additionally, Windows Phone devices too are going to be adversely affected by this change. Starting January 30, 2013, consumers won't be able to set up new devices using Google Sync however all existing Google Sync connections will continue to function for the time being. Google Sync for Nokia S60 will be discontinued on 30th January 2013 alongside SyncML contact sync service. Google Sync will continue to be supported for Google Apps for Business, Government and Education users. |
Karbonn, the maker of entry level Android smartphones, has launched its newest device called the Karbonn A30. The dual SIM handset runs on Android 4.0 ICS. The smartphone is powered by a 1Ghz dual core processor which promises improved gaming performance and a better web browsing experience. While we're a bit short on details here, we expect the phone to be powered by Mediatek's dual core solution. The screen size is 5.9 inches which is one of the biggest smartphone displays we've come across. Over at the back you'll find an 8MP camera with LED flash. A 1.3MP front facing camera is also provided for video calling. In terms of connectivity features you'll find 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth. The phone is equipped with a 2500 mAh battery which is pretty amazing and rare to see in a phone in this range. The memory card slot allows for up to 32GB of expandable storage. The phone has been priced at Rs. 10,990 and will ship in black or white with a complimentary leather cover. |
Micromax was one of the first manufacture to launch a smartphone with a 5.0-inch display in the Indian market. The company launched the Micromax A110 Superfone Canvas 2, successor of the A100 Superfone Canvas recently. Intex, that entered the Android Smartphone market with the Aqua 4.0, launched the Aqua 5.0 with a 5-inch display last month. Let's see a quick comparison between these Dual SIM Android Smartphones. The White Intex Aqua 5.0 is black from the front with a white back cover, but Micromax A110 comes with whole body white shade. Both Intex and Micromax screens measure 12.5 cm diagonally, but screen in the Intex Aqua is wider by a very small margin. Both have nearly equal level of brightness. Both these come with a front-facing camera. Intex Aqua 5.0 has four touch buttons, but the Micromax has the regular 3 buttons. Both these phones run on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). These are nearly the same thickness. Micromax A110 looks slightly longer than Intex aqua 5.0. Micromax A110 has a more curved body. These have micro USB slots at the bottom. Intex launched the Aqua 5.0 Dual SIM Android Smartphone last month that comes with a 5.0-inch display. Intex launched the Aqua 4.0 back in August, that we reviewed recently and launched the Aqua 3.2, an affordable Android Smartphone in October. Here is the unboxing of the phone. The Intex Aqua 5.0 comes with a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calling and several pre-loaded apps including Flipkart, India Rail, Nimbuzz, Skype and more. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek processor and comes with 4 GB memory card bundled with the phone. Here are the specifications of the phone at the back of the box. The Box contents include a USB cable, Charger, in-ear earphones, 2000 mAh battery and a user manual. ZTE has scheduled an event on January 8th at CES 2013 to launch their flagship Grands S smartphone in its high-end Grand Series. The company has also revealed that this would be the world's thinnest 5-inch Smartphone with a FHD 1080p ( 1920 × 1080 pixels) display. HTC was the first company to release the J Butterfly with a 5-inch 1080p display for Japan, that launched as Droid DNA in the US. The global variant HTC Butterfly was recently announced. Oppo Find 5 with Full HD display was announced earlier this week, and is expect to launch in select markets early 2013. The ZTE Grand S would have a ceramic build and feature a traditional Chinese style. Complete specifications of the device are not available yet, but since this is the company's flagship device, we can expect a quad-core processor, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and a 2GB RAM. Lava XOLO A800, new phone in the XOLO series is now available from online retailers Flipkart and Snapdeal.
