Apple iPad Announced

apple ipad 300x199 Apple iPad AnnouncedAfter many months of rumours, Apple [AAPL] have officially announced the Apple iPad. iPad will be the official name and not Apple Tablet, Apple iSlate or whatever else we were expecting.
The iPad has been described as being very thin and promises the best web browsing experience to date of any mobile device. It has been described as being way better than a phone and way better than a laptop. The screen is capable of showing a full web page at a time which can easily be zoomed in to.
The Apple iPad has also been described as being phenomenal for email with drop down menus, features along with a full QWERTY virtual keyboard that works in landscape mode.
Overall it looks to be an amazing device although Engadget do report in their live blog of the event that they spotted flash was still not available on the device. However, Youtube and Youtube HD do work on the device.
We'll give a full roundup later of the device, so keep a look out.

Light Blue Optics Light Touch Demoed

Light Touch 300x163 Light Blue Optics Light Touch DemoedRobert Scoble managed to meet up with Dr Adrian Cable who is the CTO of Light Blue Optics. The Light Touch is device that sits on a table and is capable of projecting an image on to the surface it sits on. An infra-red curtain is created across the table and when you touch the desk you can interact with the projector.
Uses for such a technology could be seen in restaurants where interactive menus can be displayed. The system uses a custom built laser projection system. As the screen is created by laser it allows for the full image to always be in focus regardless of where the image is displayed and at what distance the image is created.
We have mentioned the Light Touch before as well as a brief demonstration. The video below shows a good 20 minutes with Adrian Cable who goes in to details of what the company want to achieve and where and how their technology will be sold.

Patch to be Released by Google to Fix Nexus One Problems

Google Nexus One Phone Official 300x300 Patch to be Released by Google to Fix Nexus One ProblemsSince launch, the Google [GOOG] Nexus One has had a few problems. One of the problems is 3G connectivity that has been spotty for users. Many Nexus One users are reported to have this problem.
From what we hear, Google are going to be launching a patch that will fix the spotty 3G connectivity issues. The update will be launched as a patch for those using the phone…
I wanted to post an update to the Nexus One Help Forum to let you know what we've been working on to help address the 3G issues some of you have been facing. I also wanted to thank you for being patient as we work to investigate the problem, an effort which has included our hardware partners.
Our engineers have uncovered specific cases for which a software fix should improve connectivity to 3G for some users. We are testing this fix now, initial results are positive, and if everything progresses as planned, we will provide an over-the-air software update to your phone in the next week or so.
It is expected that the patch will be launched in the next week or so. If you are a Nexus One user and get the patch in the next few weeks do let us know if it fixes the problem.

Nokia Mobile Radar Concept

Nokia Mobile Radar 300x167 Nokia Mobile Radar Concept

Nokia have built a concept idea that is called the Mobile Radar. Mobile Radar is capable of measuring an objects distance and speed as well as direction all on a mobile phone. The screen shows all the details such as if they are travelling towards or away from you and how fast they are moving.
The video shows a couple of different ways the Mobile Radar can be used such as changing the volume of the loud speaker by moving your hand towards the phone. The radar functions also work through fabric allowing a phone to be held in a pocket or bag and still use gestures to turn it down.
The final demonstration shows someone walking towards the phone with the Mobile Radar software showing what KM/H the person being tracked is walking and if he is moving towards or away from the phone.
Possibilities for software and hardware like this could include security for the home, maybe some sort of gaming as well as controlling the phone by moving your hands in front of it.
The Mobile Radar concept might or might not show up in mobile phones and will be subject to if it's worth putting the technology in a phone. Details can be found below in the video.

More Apple iPhone OS Update Rumours

iPhone 3g s 300x336 More Apple iPhone OS Update RumoursIt appears that the iPhone Dev site from Apple [AAPL] had a strange blip yesterday just after it went off line for an update.
The image below shows a placeholder on the iPhone Dev site signup form which says "Need to update this for the 27th launch.". Could this mean that a new iPhone OS will be announced later on today? We have heard it once before when a supposed screen grab of iPhone OS for was found so there are already rumours going around about it.
The Apple iSlate/Tablet device was also said to be spotted by a stats company recently who said that they had tracked a number of iPhone OS 3.2 devices running applications with the tracking code embedded in them.
As with all rumours, just a few more hours to wait to find out what Apple has planned.

Windows Mobile 7 to go on Show at MWC 2010

Windows Phone Windows Mobile 7 to go on Show at MWC 2010The Mobile World Congress event will be starting up soon mid February and we hear at this event Microsoft [MSFT] will be showing off Windows Mobile 7.
Windows Mobile 7 is set to be a major re-vamp of the mobile platform and although it wont be ready for launch at MWC, it is expected that WM7 will be launching towards the end of this year with code being finalised by the summer.
For those of you interested in programming for Windows Mobile 7 the Mix 10 trade show in March will have information for developers to get working on applications for WM7 devices.
"Yes, at MIX10 you'll learn about developing applications and games for the next generation of Windows Phone," Microsoft said on the Mix Web site in a Jan. 20 update. "Yes, we'll have Phone sessions, and we can't say more…yet."
Windows Mobile 7 should have been launched already, but because of delays MS decided to give interim updates such as version 6.5 to help with the finger friendly interface that they are aiming for.
As of now we obviously don't know how WM7 will impact sales of phones with a number of manufactures now making phones with Android as the OS.
We'll post more details as we get them as MWC.

More Apple Tablet Shots Found

Apple Tablet Leak 300x219 More Apple Tablet Shots FoundLeaked images of what is thought to be the Apple Tablet have been sent in to Engadget late last night that show the device running some kind of mapping application as well as the tablet being compared to an iPhone.
Of course the pictures cannot be verified until we know what the device will look like "if" it is unveiled today. From what we see in the pictures the Tablet device looks to either be in some sort of funky case, or perhaps bolted to a desk to prevent staff stealing/borrowing it.
When compared with the Apple [AAPL] iPhone it appears that the tablet will have either a 9 or 10 inch screen. The back of the device is said to be aluminium and as for pricing it is expected to be $800 on contract or $1000 off contract and being made available in March.
Full details should be unveiled today if all these rumours are correct.. If nothing about a tablet or Apple iSlate is revealed by Apple then it's time to swiftly move on!
